Anyone familiar with New York City is probably also familiar with Tiffany & Co. - the place to shop for the most upscale jewelry in the city. And those who aren't are probably familiar with the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, starring none other than the queen herself, Audrey Hepburn. And if anyone isn't familiar with that, well... then perhaps they're familiar with the circa-1995 song 'Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something.

The point is, practically everyone knows what Tiffany's implies and the unspoken, almost-royalty that comes with it. That little blue box is highly coveted by many and if someone has been lucky enough to get one, that speaks volumes. What many people don't realize, though, is that there's also a cafe inside of the NYC store on Fifth Avenue called The Blue Box... and that having 'breakfast at Tiffany's' could be a reality.

The Blue Box Cafe Reopening In 2023

Scoring reservations at the Blue Box Cafe was tough enough when it was open through 2020, and it's likely to be just as challenging in 2023. However, that doesn't mean the experience isn't worth it. Fans of that classic blue box and anything it could possibly hold can look forward to a breakfast that's nothing short of elegant and, currently, the cafe is undergoing a renovation that's sure to have its second debut sparkling even more than the first.

As one might imagine, the entire interior of the cafe prior to renovations was completely Tiffany blue (and the official color, for the record). With stunning silver details, simple polished silverware, and leather seating, it was nothing short of spectacular. When it comes to New York City eateries, no one quite pulls it off like a company such as Tiffany's. This is what we have to look forward to in 2023, and it already has fans' mouths watering.

It's An Experience That Starts With Charm And Elegance

For those thinking that dining at Blue Box Cafe is a luxurious experience, they'd be correct. When the cafe was open prior to 2021 (before it was closed for renovations) there was at least a 30-day waitlist at all times. That's how coveted the experience was and how lucrative the chance to literally have breakfast at Tiffany's - but can anyone be blamed? It's Tiffany's, for goodness sake!

The cafe itself drew inspiration from the novella published in 1958 of the same name, Breakfast at Tiffany's, by Truman Capote. It's this novella that inspired the movie because - fun fact - not many people realize that there was a book, first. Upon first arriving at Tiffany's on Fifth (as it's known by the locals), the experience begins. The window showcases only the finest in jewelry as it has for decades now, gaining the reputation of being one of the top jewelry sellers in the country. It's with this iconic reputation that that anticipation - and stomach rumbles - grow as guests proceed through doors that are heavy with importance.

According to Business Insider, Blue Box Cafe was one of the most in-demand breakfast spots in all of the city during 2019 after its opening back in 2017. With the exterior wall facing Fifth Avenue, large windows not only allow light but permit views over the iconic upscale avenue, as well, only adding to the experience. Those lucky enough to have dined in the cafe prior to its renovation closing claim the tables featured various merchandise from the store, along with menus that had a variety of options - all Tiffany's-themed, of course.

Even the dishes match the iconic Tiffany blue that stretched across everything in the restaurant - something guests can likely expect more of upon its reopening. With unlimited coffee in hand, silverware that costs more than most of us would ever be comfortable spending on it, and linens that make one fear dropping the smallest crumb, the food is equally as formidable.

The Old Menu At Blue Box Cafe

It's unclear whether or not Blue Box Cafe on Fifth will feature the same menu but if it's anything like that of the one pre-2021, it's bound to be delicious. Here are the breakfast dishes (and their prices):

  • Breakfast At Tiffany, $32: Options of seasonal fruit & berries with croissant + spreads, smoked salmon bagel stack with the option for truffle cream cheese, grain bowl with pureed sweet potato and other root veggies + applewood bacon, (vegan) avocado toast with the option to add smoked salmon or a coddled egg, buttermilk waffle with poached sour cherries and raisins, parmesan polenta with white truffles from Alba and chicken sausage.
  • The Ten Carat Breakfast, $100: Siberian Ossetra caviar over a buttermilk waffle with lemon crême fraîche.

The Blue Box Cafe also served lunch, main entrees, and dessert, all with similar upscale ingredients, ranging in price between $52 and $59.

As of the time of writing (May 2023) Tiffany's Blue Box Cafe has not yet reopened and reservations are no longer available at The Blue Box Cafe. This is due to the Tiffany New York flagship still undergoing reconstruction as the design is reinvented at 727 Fifth Avenue. The Blue Box Cafe is expected to reopen in 2023, but the exact date is unclear. Until then, NYC has plenty of great rooftop bars and restaurants to enjoy.
